Your lineup card, on your phone.

Thanks for testing Lineups. This page shows how to get the test app onto your iPhone, each screen you'll see the first time you open the app, then how to set lines and run a game. Setup takes about five minutes.

Part 0 · Before you install

Get access in three steps

Lineups isn't in the App Store yet, so Apple sends you two emails first: one to join the Wispera AI team, then one to install the test app with TestFlight. The steps take about ten minutes, plus waiting for the second email.

Email 1 · from App Store Connect

  1. Find the email inviting you to join Wispera AI Inc. in App Store Connect. Check junk mail if it isn't in your inbox.
  2. Tap the link in the email within 3 days. After that it expires.
  3. Sign in with your Apple Account. The one on your iPhone is simplest. No Apple Account for that email? You can create one there.
  4. If Apple asks for a verification code, it's sent to your other Apple devices or phone number.
  5. You're on the team as a tester. You don't need App Store Connect again after this.
Missed the 3 days? Ask whoever invited you to resend it. It only takes them a minute.

BInstall with TestFlight

Email 2 · from TestFlight

  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store on your iPhone. It's free, made by Apple.
  2. Wait for the second email. It's sent once a build is ready for you, which can be a while after step A.
  3. Open it on your iPhone and tap View in TestFlight.
  4. In TestFlight, tap Accept, then Install.
  5. Lineups appears on your Home Screen. Open it and go on to Part 1.
An orange dot beside the name on your Home Screen means it's the test version. That's expected.

CStay up to date

TestFlight notifications

  1. When TestFlight asks to send notifications, tap Allow. Missed it? Go to Settings › Notifications › TestFlight.
  2. In TestFlight, open Lineups and turn on Automatic Updates so new builds install by themselves.
  3. Each new build comes with an email, a notification and What to Test notes. Read those before your next practice or game.
  4. A build works for 90 days. Keep updating so you never open an expired one.
Don't delete Lineups to update it. Your teams, rosters and notes live only on your phone, and deleting the app deletes them. Updating keeps them.
"This invitation has expired"Team invitations last 3 days. Ask for a new one.
No TestFlight email yetIt only comes once a build is ready for you. Check junk mail and search your inbox for "TestFlight".
Emails went to the wrong addressBoth go to the address you were invited with. Tell us if you'd rather use another.
"View in TestFlight" does nothingInstall TestFlight first, then tap the link again on your iPhone, not a computer.
Part 1 · First launch

Set up in seven screens

Lineups saves each screen as you finish it. If you get interrupted, close the app and it opens where you left off.

Tap Get started. No account or sign-in is needed.

NoteVoice notes and AirPods are coming in the next update. In this build, you type your notes.

Your name

Type your name and tap Continue. It appears on the lineup cards you share. Leave it blank and you'll be Coach.

TipYou can change it later in Settings.

Your teams

For each team you coach, enter a name, a level if you like, and pick a colour. Then tap + Add team. When your teams are listed, tap Continue.

TipEvery team keeps its own roster, games and notes. Setup continues with the first team. The others wait on Home.

Your roster

From screenshots is the quickest way. Open your team app (TeamSnap or similar), take screenshots of the roster list, and pick them here. Up to 10, in order. It's fine if they overlap, because a player who shows up twice is only added once.

  • Review before adding. Fix any number, name or position. A player shown in amber needs attention, usually a missing number. Amber is a reminder and won't stop you adding the roster.
  • Not players collects coaches, managers, parents, phone numbers and emails. Only names, numbers and positions are saved. Tap a line there to bring it back if it's really a player.
  • Paper roster? Take a photo, or choose one you already have. Printed sheets read best. Handwriting works less reliably.
  • Rather type? One player per line, like 17 Jonah Pike LW.

TipScreenshots and photos are read on your phone and never kept. Skip for now also works, and the team shows Add roster on Home.

Your next game and first lineup

Enter the opponent, the date and time, and Home or Away, then tap Set the lines. On the empty card, tap Fill by position for a first draft: goalies to the crease, defence into pairs, forwards into lines. Special teams stay empty for you to fill.

  • Adjust by dragging a player to another spot, or by tapping a player and then tapping a spot. More on this in Setting lines.
  • When the card looks right, tap Start game ›. Setup continues in game mode.

TipNo game coming up? Tap Skip for now. Your roster is saved and the team shows Set lines on Home.

Your first note

The card becomes game mode. Tap Got it, then tap any player's name. Type a short note and tap Save note. Lineups shows it back to you and files it under that player.

You're set

You'll see a line for each team: players, game and notes. Tap Go to my teams to reach Home.

TipYour test game is still live. The next time you open Lineups it goes straight back into it. End it from game mode when you're done.

Your other teams

Each other team waits on Home with an Add roster pill. Tap the team, then Add the roster, and use the same screenshots, photo or typed list as step 4.

Then open Games, tap New game, and set its lines the same way.

TipCoach a kid on two teams? Add them to each roster. In this build every team keeps its own list.

Part 2 · Portrait and landscape

Turn your phone for more room

Every screen in Lineups works both ways, and the lineup card and game mode change layout when you turn the phone. Hold it upright for quick taps. Turn it sideways to see the whole card at once.

Turning doesn't work? Check the rotation lock first.

  1. STEP 1Open Control CentreSwipe down from the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. STEP 2Turn off the lockIf the lock with a circular arrow is highlighted, tap it once.
  3. STEP 3Turn the phoneLineups follows. Either sideways direction works.

Portrait Orientation Lock keeps every app upright. It's the most common reason the card won't turn.

Turn it back on whenever you like. Lineups works fully upright too.

Setting lines

Same card, two layouts. Nothing you do in one is lost when you turn to the other.

Portrait one column + bench tray
  1. 1Roster opens the bench tray to about two-thirds of the screen, listing the whole team. Tap Hide to close it.
  2. 2Bench chips. Tap a chip, then tap a spot, or drag the chip onto the card. Players out tonight show a dashed chip.
  3. 3Scroll while dragging. Hold a player near the top or bottom edge and the card scrolls to the next section.
  4. 4Start game › lives in the tray, always in reach of your thumb.
Best forQuick changes at the rink door, one-handed. A swap or two, or scratching a late no-show.
Landscape roster beside the whole card
  1. 1The roster stays in view. Every player with his number and where he's playing: a spot like L1 · LW, Bench, or Out tonight. Tap a name to pick him up, or drag it straight onto the card.
  2. 2Forwards and defence side by side. All four lines, the pairs and the goalies fit on one screen. Scroll down in the card for the power play, penalty kill and Scratches.
  3. 3Scratch by tap. Tap a player in the roster, then tap Scratches. To send someone to the bench, tap him, then tap the roster's header.
  4. 4Pre-game talk and Start game › sit together in the footer.
Best forBuilding a card from scratch, reworking lines between games, balancing pairs, and filling the power play and penalty kill.

During a game

Game mode has two tabs: Notes for tapping players, rating lines and marking goals, and Lines for changing the card while the game is live.

  1. 1Notes · Lines switches between tapping players and editing the card.
  2. 2Period. Tap P1, P2, P3 or OT as the game moves on. Notes and marks are filed under the period.
  3. 3Rate a line. Tap the unit label (L1, P1, PP1…) and choose Good, Okay or Poor.
  4. 4Tap a name to note. The small green number counts that player's notes this game.
  5. 5Goal for / Goal against, then pick who was on the ice. End game is underneath.
Best forNoting players during play. The tiles are bigger and easier to hit on the bench.
Landscape every unit, one-row header
  1. 1One-row header. Team, opponent, period and Notes · Lines all fit across the top, leaving more height for players.
  2. 2Every line at once. All four forward lines on the left, each with its rating button.
  3. 3Pairs and special teams on the right, so you can rate the power play or penalty kill the moment it ends.
  4. 4Goal buttons and End game share one footer row.
Best forFollowing every unit, special teams included, and rating lines between whistles.

Line change mid-game? Tap Lines, turn the phone sideways to get the two-pane card with the roster beside it, make the change, then tap Notes and turn back upright.

Each change you make during the game is saved as a new version, so the card you started with is never lost.

Setting lines

Move players by tapping or by dragging. Both do exactly the same thing, so use whichever feels quicker.

ColoursA green outline places him. Green Swap trades two players. Amber Bench means the player already there goes to the bench.

How the card works

  • One spot on the lines at a time. Moving a player from Line 1 to Line 3 takes him off Line 1.
  • Special teams are extra. Your Line 1 centre can also play PP1 and PK1.
  • Scratching takes a player off every spot, special teams too. Placing him again brings him back.
  • Hints, not rules. A right shot on the left side is fine. Lineups won't stop you.

Fill by position

A first draft in one tap: goalies to the crease, defence into pairs, forwards by usual spot then number. Players with no number go last. Special teams stay empty.

Copy last game

Starts from this team's most recent card. Anyone out tonight is left off and their spots stay open. On a card that already has lines, both are under Start from.

Out tonight

On the team's Roster tab, switch a player to Out for the next game. On the card he gets an amber OUT tag, but nothing moves until you move him.

Versions and Undo

No Save button: every change is kept. After a scratch, Fill or Copy, an Undo bar appears. Versions lists earlier cards to Restore or Keep.

Pre-game talk

One line at the bottom of the card, like "Win the wall battles." It goes on the card image when you share it.

Share lines

The share icon on the card, or on the Next game card, makes an image any coach can read, with no app needed. Your notes are never included.

Part 4 · On the bench

During the game

Start a game from its card or from Start game on the Games tab. The card becomes game mode.

A game, start to finish

  1. 1Pick the period at the top: P1, P2, P3 or OT.
  2. 2Tap a name to write a note about that player. You can add as many as you like, each filed with the period. Voice coming soon
  3. 3Rate a unit by tapping its label (L1, P2, PP1): Good, Okay or Poor. The label shows the latest rating.
  4. 4Goal for / Goal against: pick the units on the ice, one line, one pair and so on, then Save goal.
  5. 5Made a mistake? The Undo bar after each rating or goal takes it back.
  6. 6Line change? Tap Lines, edit the card, tap Notes to return. Turning the phone sideways helps here.
  7. 7End game at the bottom. The card and its notes are kept. Tap Reopen game on its card if you ended it too soon.

A player's notes

On the Roster tab, tap a player, then Notes. His notes are listed by game, each with its period.

Line totals

On the Games tab after your first game: goals for and against and ratings for each line combination, across all your games.

One live game at a time

Starting a second game asks you to end the first. If you close the app mid-game, it opens straight back into the game.

Part 5 · Every day

After setup

Home lists your teams. Tap one to open its hub, with Games and Roster tabs.

Where things are

  1. ⌂Home pills tell you what each team needs next: Add roster, Set lines, Lines set or Live.
  2. ▾Switch teams from the chip at the top of any hub. + Add a team is on Home and in that switcher.
  3. GGames tab: Live now, Next game (with Start game and share), Upcoming, Past and Line totals. New game adds one.
  4. RRoster tab: Out tonight for the next game, + Add players from more screenshots (nobody is removed), and tap a player to edit number, position, usual spot and shot.
  5. ⚙Settings (gear on Home): your name and Appearance: Dark, Light or Match phone.
  6. ···Team options in the hub holds Delete team. It lists what goes with the team, and waits if one of its games is live.

Good to know

Works at the rinkNo signal, no Wi-Fi, no account needed.
Screenshots aren't keptThey're read on your phone. Only name, number and position are saved.
Notes stay privateA shared card never includes your notes.
Picks up where you left offClose the app mid-setup and it reopens on the same step.

  1. Take a screenshot in Lineups: side button and volume up together.
  2. Tap the preview in the corner, mark it up if you like, then tap the share button and choose Share Beta Feedback.
  3. Add a comment and tap Submit.

No screenshot? Open the TestFlight app, tap Lineups, then Send Beta Feedback.

What helps most

  • What you were doing, what you expected, and what happened.
  • Whether the phone was upright or sideways.
  • How the screenshot import did: how many players it found, and how many you had to fix.

Protect your players

Screenshots of your roster or card show real kids' names. Before sending one, cover the names with the markup pen, or tell us in words instead.

Not in this build yet

  • Voice notes and AirPods: coming in the next update. Type your notes for now.
  • Say it for rosters shows as not ready yet.
  • Tell a coach in Settings turns on once Lineups is in the App Store.
  • Sending a roster and lineup file to an assistant's copy of the app comes later. Share the card image for now.
